MARCENE E. "MARK" DIETERICH
(2/17/1944 - 8/8/2003)
Marcene E. "Mark" Dieterich, 59, of Arbela, died Friday evening, August 8, 2003, at University Hospital in Columbia.
He was born the son of Hubert Arthur and Edith Laura (Smith) Dieterich on February 17, 1944 at the family homestead in Arbela.
Mark graduated from the Gorin High School in 1961. He was active in 4-H while in school.
On February 28, 1965 he married the former Linda Smoot.
He married Karon Duke Fountain on January 31, 1992.
Mark retired from the Caterpillar plant in Davenport, IA, and farmed in Illinois and Missouri.
He enjoyed farming, horseback riding, and country-western music.
Mark would do anything for anyone who needed help. He enjoyed being with his family and his grandchildren. He loved being outside, especially riding his horses and motorcycle. Mark was full of life and will be greatly missed by all that loved him.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, a daughter, Marci Lynn in 1983, and a nephew, Dale in 1955.
He is survived by his wife, Karon Dieterich of Arbela, MO; a daughter, Julie and husband Tim Munday of Illinois; a son, Lance and his wife Angie Dieterich of Illinois; stepchildren, Penny and husband Gene Trueblood of Nebraska, Peggy and husband Brad Hudson of Arbela, MO, Patrick and wife Vicki Fountain of Illinois, and Kevin and wife Terri Fountain of Kirksville, MO; a sister, Janis and husband Ken Theel of Wisconsin; an aunt, Mildred Dieterich of Memphis, MO; his mother-in-law, Nettie Duke of Memphis, MO; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 12, at the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis with the Rev. Carol Blackwell officiating. Angela Westhoff played the piano and sang. Larry Mohr, Randy Mathes, Ronnie Kraus, Ronnie Boyer, Kenny Dieterich, and Richard Billings served as casket bearers. Gene and Bobby Bair, Okie Boyer, Devin Holt, Rodney Smith and Ralph Erickson were honorary casket bearers. Burial was in the Etna Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Etna Cemetery.
The Gerth Funeral Service is handling the arrangements from their Memphis chapel.
