EDITH AMANDA BLEYTHING FERRIS

Edith Amanda Bleything Ferris, 98, of Memphis, MO, died July 20, 2003, at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield, IA.
The daughter of Earl and Mary McDaniel Bleything, she was born April 5, 1905, in Schuyler County, MO.
On June 17, 1922 she was united in marriage to Olin Holcomb Ferris, and to this union four children were born.
Edith spent most of her adult life on a farm with her husband and children. She spent time tending to chickens, gardening vegetables as well as flowers. She enjoyed the farm life and animals immensely. She loved her family, and her children recall her making large dinners for several visiting family members who had arrived for extended stays.
In later years she was caregiver to several people within her home including her mother, step-father, and mother-in-law all at the same time. Edith resided at her home in Memphis, MO alone until she was 95 years old.
Edith will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all those lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Olin Wayne Ferris; one son-in-law, Bill Mathes, one grandson, Phillip Lee Mathes of Tempe, AZ; and five brothers and sisters.
Survivors include three daughters, Ruby Lee Mathes of Onawa, IA, Ruth Drummond of Kirksville, MO, and Marietta and her husband, Francis Fowler of Greentop, MO; daughter-in-law, Helen Jean Ferris of Downing, MO; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren; six step-great-great-grandchildren; also numerous nieces and nephews.
The family has suggested memorials to the Davis County Hospital, and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO. Friends may call from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 24, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Ray Ostlund officiating. Body bearers will be grandsons. Honorary bearers will be Dale Drummond, Frances Fowler, Jerry Erlandson, Loyal Greenstreet, Harvey Rhinesmith and Richard Weatherly. Interment will be in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO.
