PATRICIA ANN MARRA

Patricia (Patty) Ann Marra, 67, of Kirksville, MO passed away May 3, 2003, after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Patty was born August 23, 1935, in Rutledge, MO, to Harold and Juanita Givens.
Patty attended primary school in Rutledge and graduated from Baring High School. She received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State). Upon graduating, Patty began her 26-year teaching career in 1972 at Scotland County R-I in Memphis, MO teaching Kindergarten for 11 years and completing her tenure with the district teaching the Title I program. After retirement, Patty volunteered at Northeast Regional Medical Center assisting in numerous departments, gardened, participated in the Kirksville Relay for Life cancer fundraiser and spent as much time as possible with her family. She was also a member of Mary Immaculate Catholic Church.
Patty lived life to the fullest and took great joy in spending time with her family, many friends, loved ones and beloved pets. She was proud of the success of her children, grandchildren and former students. Patty was known for her tremendous sense of humor, her pearls of wisdom, her honesty and integrity, her compassion for others, her sharp intellect, her high energy, but most of all for the unconditional love and devotion she showed to those for whom she cared.
She was preceded in death by her parents and special Godparents, Pansy and Clarence Bertram.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas G. Marra of Kirksville, MO, to whom she was married 30 years; her children, Mike Early and his wife, Mary Carol of Kirksville, MO, Debi Kavanaugh and her husband, Jim of Ashland, MO, Sue Patterson and her husband, Richard of Kirksville, MO, Patricia Carter and her husband, Jeff of Arlington, TX, and John Early of Kansas City, MO; her grandchildren, Amanda Early, Allison Early Farwell, Sara Early, Andy Early, Lissy Early, Kaitlin Early, Caroline Early, Molly Early, Niki Newman, Bryce Patterson, Emily Kavanaugh Salter, Abby Kavanaugh, Lucy Carter, Luke Carter, Maddi Carter and Will Carter; her brother, Jack Givens and his wife, Beverly of Memphis, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be missed greatly, but her memory and legacy will be forever present in the lives of her loved ones.
Visitation with a Celebration of Life were held at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Services were held May 7, 2003, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Edina, MO followed by interment at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Baring, MO. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society "Relay For Life" or to "Conversations" (the international newsletter for those fighting ovarian cancer).
