Miles Epperson, 98, of Memphis, formerly of Gorin, died Monday evening, April 28, 2003, at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital.

The son of Henry and Lovina Frances (Petty) Epperson, he was born on July 19, 1904, near Memphis. He attended rural Scotland County schools.

On July 19, 1926, he was married to Flora M. Glasgow in Memphis, Missouri. She preceded him in death in 1997.

Miles and Flora were blessed with four children.

Miles was a welder on the pipeline from 1926 until 1945. In 1945, he began row crop and livestock farming around Gorin, MO, but continued to weld for local residents. Upon his retirement in 1971, he and Flora moved into the town of Gorin. In 1993, they established their home in Memphis.

He enjoyed circle word puzzles, driving and socializing in the local coffee shops. He was a member of the Arbela Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Flora; a son, Hollis Rex; one brother, Ralph Epperson; and one sister, Gladys Riley.

Survivors include two daughters: Bert Bibby and her husband Leroy of Memphis, MO, and Beulah Aldinger and her husband Bob of Elmer, MO; one son, William J. Epperson and his wife Sandra of Bella Vista, Arkansas; nine grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 2, 2003, at the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis with burial in the Granger Cemetery. The Rev. Ernest Deatrick officiated. Arleta Dye, pianist, and D.J. Tague, soloist provided special music. Serving as casket bearers were Bob, Mike, and Robbie Aldinger, Leroy Bibby, Derrick Muntz, and Bradley Epperson. Memorials are suggested to the Gorin Baptist Church or the Scotland County Senior Nutrition Center.

The Gerth Funeral Service is handling the arrangements from their Memphis chapel.
