Josie Mae Stone, 95, of Memphis died Thursday morning, April 10, 2003 at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis. She was born the daughter of Burley and Alice (Kigar) Saulsbury on November 2, 1907 in Knox County, Missouri. Josie married Leo Stone on December 9, 1926 in Memphis. He preceded her in death. The Stones farmed near Rutledge. Josie also worked for the Rutledge Post Office for many years, collecting the bags that had been dropped off by the trains that delivered the mail. After moving to Memphis, she worked as a home health care provider. Josie loved music, playing piano in a group in Bible Grove that played at dances and at homes. She was also an accomplished quilter. Josie would scour the garage sales looking for cloth to make her unique quilts, which she often gave away. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Anna Belle; and a brother-in-law, Orville. She is survived by her grandsons: Terry and wife Candy Fountain of Glasford, IL, and David and wife Melissa Fountain, of Windsor, CA; a son-in-law, Andrew B. Fountain of Downing; great-grandchildren, Rachel and Derek Fountain of Peoria, IL, and Crystal and Ryan Fountain of Windsor, CA. Funeral Services were held at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 12, 2003, at the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis with Pastor Larry Smith officiating. Serving as Casket Bearers were Terry, David, Derek, and Ryan Fountain, Pat Powell, and Larry Stone. Burial was in the Greensburg Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Scotland County Care Center.
