Robert Junior Gooden, 80, of Memphis, MO, died April 11, 2003, in the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, MO.

Born August 10, 1922, in Davis County, IA, Robert was the son of Earl Edgar and Delpha Lasley Gooden.

He attended grade school in Van Buren County, IA. He was a member of the Milton Christian Church, serving as a deacon and board member and has been affiliated with the First Christian Church in Memphis, MO since moving to Memphis in 1991.

He married Betty Louise Holloway on December 17, 1941, in the Memphis Christian Parsonage and to this union was born two children.

He was a retired farmer and served on the Board of the Fox Valley Co-op and was a member of the Iowa and Missouri Farm Bureau organization. He was a member of the Milton Lions Club, participated in the Milton Cantata. He and his wife enjoyed playing cards and were members of the Happy Hour Card Club for many years and also participated in the card marathon in Memphis, MO.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Barb Creath and her husband, Lon of Milton, IA; and a son, Bobby Gooden of Fairfield, IA; five grandchildren, Jennifer Origer and husband, Bruno of Cumming, IA, Robin Airy and husband, Brad of Dublin, OH, Jina Patterson of Hollywood, FL, Jocelyn Rosdail of Marion, IA, Ryan Gooden of Farmington, IA; five great grandchildren, Bryce and Rylee Origer, Tanner Rosdail, Jordyn Airy, Zachary Tanner and a brother, LaVerne Gooden and his wife, Helen of Ottumwa, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Kenneth and Estel Gooden.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Memphis or Milton Christian Church or the South Prairie Cemetery.

Funeral services were held April 15, 2003 at the First Christian Church in Memphis, MO with Bro. Jack Sumption officiating. Musicians were Ann Luther, organist, and Schelle Cooley, vocalist. Burial was in the South Prairie Cemetery in Van Buren County south of Milton, IA by the Robert Gooden farm. Casket bearers were Curtis Short, Bruno Origer, Brad Airy, Jack Sharp, John Aylward, and Rex Overstreet. Honorary casket bearers were Paul Thomas, Lowell Scott, Rex Short, Eugene Grim, Bud Garrett, Norris Gaffney, James Zeitler, Dick Hanna, Wayne Norton, and Bob Dugger. Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, MO, was in charge of arrangements.
