MARION EDWARD DAGGS

Marion Edward Daggs, 91, formerly of Arbela, MO, died March 30, 2003, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO.
He was born May 19, 1911, in Azen, MO to Jay Edward and Patience Blanche Stonebraker Daggs.
He attended Fairview Grade School and Granger High School. In his early years he attended the Mt. Moriah Methodist Church and later transferred membership to the Memphis Methodist Church.
He married Clarabell Dorsey on December 26, 1934 in Keokuk, IA, and to this union was born one son.
He was a retired farmer and cattleman and was active in many organizations. He was a member of Memphis Lodge #16 AF&AM and was a Past Master. He was also a Knights Templar in Royal Arch Masons in Kirksville, MO. He was charter member of the American Angus Association and served as past president of the NEMO Angus Association. He was one of the original board members of the Scotland County Nursing Home, a former member of the Scotland County Fair Board and a member of the board of the Tri-County Electric. He was also affiliated for many years with Farmers Mutual Insurance Company, where he served as president and board member. Marion numbered his friends by his acquaintances.
He is survived by his wife; one son, James Robert Daggs and his wife, Beverly of Memphis, MO; three granddaughters, Jacqueline L. Daggs and her husband, Michael Olson of Eldora, IA, Jennifer L. Daggs-Furkin and her husband, Roger of Columbia, MO, Joy L. Daggs of Cedar Falls, IA; and three great-granddaughters, Jaelyn R. Daggs-Olson, Jordyn L. Daggs-Olson, and Reece W. Furkin and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Claire Miller; and a brother, Harold "Bud" Daggs.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 2, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Memphis Funeral Home in Memphis, MO.
Memorials may be made to the Scotland County Memorial Library.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 3, 2003, at the Memphis Funeral Home in Memphis at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Carol Blackwell officiating. Connie Courtney will be the organist and vocalist will be LaMayra Brown. Casket bearers will be Steve Morris, Ronnie Miller, Ronald Gardner, Steve Woodruff, Randy Woodruff and Mike Aylward. Honorary casket bearers will be Gerald Brunk, Robert Shanes, Johnny Erickson, and George Frederick. Burial will be in the Memphis Cemetery. Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, MO is in charge of arrangements.
