ELTON PRESTON SPURGEON

Elton Preston Spurgeon, 55, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died March 20, 2003, at his home.
The son of Russell Eldon and Anna Cecilia Webster Spurgeon, he was born February 17, 1948, at St. Patrick, MO.
He married Linda Kay Hemmie on May 26, 1967, at Kahoka, MO.
Elton graduated from Wyaconda High School at Wyaconda, MO in 1966. He served in the US Army in the Vietnam Conflict from 1968-1970 as a diesel mechanic.
He had worked as a foreman at the IAAP at Burlington, IA and then after his military time he worked at AgriBuilders at Winfield, IA until he purchased the business and changed it to Millwright Contractors.
Elton and Linda had raised foster children for several years. He also had played base guitar in a country music band. He enjoyed dirt track racing.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; two brothers, Dean Spurgeon of Granger, MO and Walter Spurgeon of Golden, CO; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Albert; and a nephew, Danny.
The funeral service for Elton Spurgeon was held March 22, 2003, at the Honts Funeral Home at Winfield, IA, with Pastor Greg Carr officiating. Burial was at the Granger Cemetery at Granger, MO. A memorial fund has been established for the benefits of the Dialysis Unit at Mt. Pleasant, IA and the family needs. Casket bearers were Steve Gholson, Terry Beames, Todd Spence, Jeremy Hinkle, Dean Spurgeon, David Bain, Robin Spurgeon, Chet Spurgeon, and Destery Spurgeon.
