Genola Frances Billups, 95, of Memphis, MO, passed away December 27, 2002, at the Scotland County Care Center, Memphis, MO, where she had been a resident since 1998.

She was born on November 21, 1907, to Opha and Mary Frances (Aylward) Cunningham in rural Scotland County, MO.

She attended a one-room school, Center Point, then graduated from Memphis High School. She either rode a horse or drove a horse and buggy to high school.

On February 15, 1930, she was united in marriage to Brainerd Isham Billups in Memphis, MO, and to this union three children were born, Donald, Mary Anna, and Richard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Shirley Boise, an infant brother, and brothers-in-law, Parley Rudy and Ervin Boise.

She is survived by one sister, Grace Rudy of the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO; son, Donald Billups and wife, Nelda of Memphis, MO; a daughter, Mary Anna Andrews and husband, Roland of Milton, IA; and son, Richard Billups and wife, Joella of Cantril, IA; five grandchildren, Gail Gregory of Austin, TX, Donna Gonzalez of Bradenton, FL, Debra Banuche of Sarasota, FL, Thomas Billups of Portland, OR, and Julie Vaughan of Simpsonville, SC; and six great-grandchildren, Adrianna Gonzalez, Elisa Gonzalez, Christina Banuche, Kailin Solomons, Victoria and Jordan Vaughan.

Genola was an active member of the Providence Baptist Church until it closed. She enjoyed worshipping and participating in church activities at the Richland Baptist Church, as long as her health permitted.

Being a housewife and mother, she helped in raising farm animals and doing chores. She enjoyed music, flowers, gardening, crafts, and art in her spare time and spending time with family and friends. Later in life she made a number of friends while selling Raleigh products, and raising and selling registered dogs and cats. She was always willing to help others.

The family has suggested memorials to Providence Cemetery, Richland Baptist Church or the Scotland County Care Center and may be left or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held January 3, 2003, at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO with Brother Mike Wilson officiating. Music was provided by Arleta Dye, pianist, and Mike and Pam Blaine, vocalists. Body bearers were Garth Lloyd, Vaughn Biggs, Charles Alexander, Clifton Stott, Dean Simerl, and Don Chancellor. Honorary bearers were Thomas Billups, Vinton Ebling, Robert Shanes, Steve Vaughan, Chad Andrews, and Keith Balderston. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery, beside her husband.
