MACC Ham Giveaway Draws Traffic To Community Website

Members of the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce really hammed it up for the holidays. While the MACC didnt perform a Christmas play, the community organization did sponsor a ham giveaway contest that was deemed was a huge success.

The goal of the contest was to promote awareness of the community website at Before the contest, the average number of hits (visits) to the website were around 7,000. According to Ken McMinn of Tri-Star Systems, webmaster for the site and creator of the contest, there were some 50,000 hits during the three weeks that the contest ran.

McMinn is able to see details about visitors to the site and says, People from all over northeast Missouri, southeast Iowa, and western Illinois visited the site.

He added that virtually all contest winners come from different communities throughout the region. Since winners must pick up their hams at Js Foods, this means that they must all come to Memphis.

One of MACCs primary missions is to generate more interest in Memphis and Scotland County and by doing so bring people here to see what our community has to offer. The ham giveaway contest did just that.

The chamber gave away one ham each weekday from December 1 through December 19 to the internet viewer who found Santa Claus on the communitys website, In addition, the generous support of MACC members also allowed the chamber to donate five hams to the Community Action Agency for distribution to needy families.
