Speedway Promoter Announces He Won’t Be Back For 2004 Race Season
The Scotland County Speedway will have its fourth different promoter in the track’s six-year history after being reopened by the Scotland County Fair Board in the late 1990’s.
Promoter Terry Hoenig, who ran the track during the 2002 and 2003 seasons, has chosen not to accept a contract offer from the fair board to return for a third year.
A message on the Lee County Speedway website, which is owned and operated by Hoenig to promote his other track, located at Donnellson, IA, announced the promoters decision.
The message read: “We have some disappointing news: Unfortunately we will not be returning to Memphis for the 2004 season – we wish who ever takes over good luck and we will try in any way to help them get started. Thanks to all who supported us running the track – we will miss the Saturday Night Excitement.
The promoter had until the middle of November to decide on the contract offer from the fair board. Representatives of the local group indicated the contract did not hold any significant changes from the one Hoenig signed in 2003.
