Gosney Retires From Highway Patrol After 31 Years Of Service
Captain John W. Elliott, Commanding Officer of Troop B, Macon, announces that Sergeant Roger P. Gosney retired on August 31, 2003, after serving over 31 years with the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Sergeant Gosney, a native of Quincy, IL, was appointed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol on July 1, 1972. After graduating from the Patrol Academy, he was assigned to Troop C and stationed in Bowling Green. On July 15, 1977, he transferred to Troop B and was stationed in Memphis. On September 1, 1981, he was promoted to corporal and was designated the assistant zone commander of the Memphis zone. On March 1, 1986, he was promoted to sergeant and designated the zone commander of the Memphis zone.
Sergeant Gosney assisted with numerous details during his career with the Patrol which include the Missouri State Fair, President Carter detail, University of Missouri football detail, the Brown manhunt in 1987, the 1999 Papal visit to St. Louis, two Governor inauguration details, and the Hell’s Angels rally in Branson, Missouri. On May 10, 2003, he received the Patrol’s “Meritorious Service Award” at the annual Missouri State Highway Patrol awards ceremony for his involvement with the rescue of an individual trapped in the Middle Fabius River west of Colony.
Prior to his appointment with the Patrol, Sergeant Gosney served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps and attended Truman State University (formerly Northeast Missouri State University) in Kirksville where he attained a bachelors of science degree in History.
Sergeant Gosney is married to Wanda “Snookie” (Edwards), a native of Bowling Green, Missouri. They have four children: Travis, of Mantecha, California; Kara, of Brashear, Missouri; Allison, of Memphis, Missouri; and Evan, of 29 Palms Marine Corps Base, California. They also have four grandchildren.
Corporal Michael E. Kauth of Kahoka, was promoted to sergeant. He has been designated the zone commander of Zone 6 as Gosney’s replacement.
Kauth was appointed to the Patrol on January 1, 1992 and was first assigned to Troop B, and stationed in Kahoka. He was promoted to corporal on June 1, 1997. Kauth is a native of Leavenworth, KS, and grew up in northwest Missouri. He graduated from East Buchanan High School at Gower and attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. He is married to Jennifer (Malone) Kauth of Camdenton and they have two children: Leighanne, 10; and Madison, 22 months.
Trooper Christopher Cerroni of Greentop, was promoted to corporal. He has been designated the assistant zone commander of Zone 6, which serves the citizens of Clark and Scotland counties. Cerroni was appointed to the Patrol on January 1, 1993, and was first assigned to Troop B, Milan. On January 1, 1997, he transferred to Zone 5, Greentop. On February 1, 2001, he transferred to Troop C and was stationed in Pacific. On August 1, 2002 he transferred back to Troop B, Greentop. Cerroni is a native of Crestwood. He is a graduate of Vianney High School in Kirkwood and holds a bachelor’s of arts degree in political science from the University of Missouri - St. Louis. He is married to Kristie (Thompson) Cerroni, a native of Queen City, and they have one child: Chayton, 5.
