Highway Patrol Reports Crash Numbers Down In Scotland County
Despite investigating four motor-vehicle accidents in Scotland County during the month of July, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that traffic crash numbers are down in the county in 2003 compared to the previous year.
The Patrol has investigated 23 vehicle crashes in Scotland County during the first seven months of the year. That is down from 31 wrecks during the same recording period in 2002.
That follows a unit-wide trend as accident investigation numbers have dropped off from 1,218 to 1,086 in the 16-county Troop B region. Unfortunately the number of fatalities is up by 50 percent as 33 deaths have been attributed to crashes in Troop B compared to 22 in 2002.
Scotland County has no reported fatalities in 2003 and reported only one in 2002.
Despite having one of the lowest traffic crash totals in Troop B at 42, Chariton County has recorded eight traffic-related fatalities this year. Randolph County has the highest crash totals at 134 and also has reported six fatalities compared to zero last year.
