DNR Awards $20,000 To NEMO Solid Waste Management District
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $20,000 grant to the Northeast Missouri Solid Waste Management District, which includes Adair, Clark, Knox, Lewis, Schuyler and Scotland counties.
These grants enable Missouri's Solid Waste Management Districts to fund operational costs, administration of activities related to implementation of the district's solid waste management plan and expenses related to the
administration and operation of the district.
The grant is subsidized by the Solid Waste Management Fund. This fund is made up of tipping fees charged to each ton of waste disposed of in Missouri landfills or processed through transfer stations that move waste out of state. A major amendment to the Solid Waste Management Law in 1990 created a goal to significantly reduce the amount of waste going to landfills.
The projects funded by this grant will help the Northeast
Missouri Solid Waste Management District achieve this goal.
Missouri's 20 Solid Waste Management Districts were organized to encourage regional cooperation and to help ensure proper solid waste management
through waste reduction and recycling activities.
