Community Action To Host Back To School Fair August 1
It is hard to believe but the new school year is just around the corner. Northeast Community Action Agency will help students and parents get in gear for the start of school with a Back to School Fair to be held Friday, August 1 at the First Baptist Church in Memphis.
Visitors will be able to view a variety of educational booths learning about health, safety, citizenship and other school related topics during the fair, which is open from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Students accompanied by an adult will also be allowed to pick up a number of school supplies that Community Action is making available through donations from the community.
"Due to a sluggish economy and inclement weather, we expect a large turnout this year," said Community Services Manager Beverly Talbert. "Although we have some supplies on hand, we need your help, and that of other community members, to secure the rest. All of the donations submitted to the Back to School Fair are used to purchase school supplies for Scotland County students."
Last year the community donations made it possible for the fair to supply school materials for more than 100 SCR-I students.
"Your help directly effected the education of our youth - our community's future employees, residents and parents," Talbert said.
Those planning to attend the fair are asked to pre-register at the Community Action office on Highway 15 North in Memphis next to the Farm Bureau Insurance office. For more information call 660-465-8558.
