Come to the Memphis Square June 14 for Peanuts, Prizes and More
Not only will the Memphis Square be hopping this weekend but it will also be crackling and chomping as area residents converge on the business district to take part in the annual Peanut Day promotion sponsored by the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC).
Representatives of the MACC will be stationed on each corner of the square beginning at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, June 14 selling bags of peanuts for 50-cents. Each tasty bag of snacks will also include at least one prize donated from area merchants. The awards range from merchandise and cash to discount prices at local stores.
Once the peanuts have wet your appetite stick around for lunch as the Scotland County Rotary Club will be wheeling out its cooker to fix up a batch of the group's famous barbecue chicken. The meals will be sold for $7.00 beginning at 11:00 a.m. on a first come, first serve basis.
The MACC will sponsor a kids parade beginning at 1:00 p.m. Entrants must bring a non-motorized, wheeled vehicle (bike, scooter, wagon, etc.) In keeping with the Flag Day holiday, judging will be based on a patriotic decorative theme for the riders and vehicles. Participants need to register, beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Kountry Konnection on the northeast corner of the square.
The Primrose Realty clowns will be participating in the parade and providing face painting.
