Motorists Reminded To Lock Cars While At The Races
The Scotland County Sheriff's Department is asking motorists that park their cars at the Scotland County Speedway to be sure to lock their vehicles.
"We haven't had any problems yet this year that we know of," stated Bill Holland of the Scotland County Sheriff's Department. "But it wouldn't hurt if the vehicle owners did a little preventive maintenance to insure their property from theft."
The department reported a number of thefts from vehicles in the racetrack parking lot at the end of last year's race season. CD's and trailer hitches were the two items taken from most vehicles.
"People need to make sure they lock their cars, roll up their windows and secure items that make easy targets," Holland stated.
Law enforcement officers are on hand at the track each Saturday night but the massive parking area is not well lit and is difficult to police along with the grandstands and the rest of the grounds.
"It's a problem that can easily be avoided if people simply take the extra step to protect their property from theft," Holland said.
