Campus Bowl Team Advances To Title Game Of QU Tourney

The Scotland County Campus Bowl team must have enjoyed its television debut as the team maxed out its TV time by advancing all the way to the championship game of the 2002 Quincy University Academic Challenge.

After an opening round win over Clark County on October 20 (that game will air on WGEM Channel 10 at 6:00 p.m. November 23) the Tigers advanced to take on Colchester in round two on October 27.

Scotland County jumped out to a huge lead in the first half to the tune of a 150-40 advantage. That was more than enough as the Tigers went on to the 340-240 victory.

Ryan Hinds topped the scoring with 80 points while Jennifer Crawford and Michael Lodewegen both had big games as well combining for 150 points.

The win set up a semi-finals match between the Tigers and Quincy Notre Dame later that afternoon.

The two evenly matched squads went back and forth the entire contest. Quincy Notre Dame led 150-140 at halftime before the Tigers rallied late to take the 400-390 victory.

Hinds had a dominating performance with 140 points. Jason Findling pitched in with 40 points in the winning effort.

The Tigers run ended there as Griggsville-Perry pulled away late for a 420-185 victory. The Tigers trailed by just 40 points heading into the 60-second round before the Illinois team came alive in the second period.

Hinds, Lodewegen, Crawford, Findling and Brian Dial represented Scotland County in the event.

The Tigers second round game against Colchester will air on WGEM at 6:00 p.m. January 4. The semi-finals game against Quincy Notre Dame has a 6:00 p.m. timeslot on January 25 with the championship game set for 6:00 p.m. February 8.
