Lady Tigers Mash Milan In District Opener
The Scotland County softball team took the first step in the district playoffs by easily handling Milan 8-1 to advance to the semi-finals.
The victory came a day after an 11-inning marathon in the season finale for SCR-I but the team looked anything but tired.
SCR-I jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first frame. Sara Eggleston walked to start the inning. Amy Blomme delivered a hit before a walk to Meagan Fromm loaded the bases. Brandi Mallett was hit by a pitch to force in the first run. A bases loaded walk to Valerie Crawford forced the next run in. Jennifer Crawford followed that up with a base hit to get her team off to a roaring start.
Scotland County added some insurance in the third inning. Jenna Shalley started the rally with a base knock. Ali Fromm pinch ran for the designated hitter and she came around to score on a fielder's choice by Valerie Crawford. Jessie Cotton delivered an RBI single to make the score 7-1.
Eggleston went the distance in the winning performance. She struck out six and walked one while allowing just two hits.
