SCR-I Rallies In Final At Bat To Defeat Raiders
A run in the bottom of the seventh inning ended what likely was the third-place game for the Tri-Rivers Conference in favor of Scotland County. The Lady Tigers edged North Shelby 2-1 to hand the Raiders their third loss this season in league play and virtually wrap up third place in the league for Scotland County.
The Raiders posed a threat in the first inning with a leadoff single. But SCR-I catcher Brandi Mallett gunned down the runner trying to steal second to quiet the visiting team.
Scotland County on the other hand did get a run across in the first inning. Amy Blomme walked and stole second base. She scored an error to put SCR-I ahead 1-0.
The lead evaporated in the fourth inning courtesy of a pair of Scotland Count fielding miscues that allowed North Shelby to tie the game at 1-1.
That's where the score remained until the bottom of the seventh. Valerie Crawford started the inning with a base hit. Jessie Cotton laid down the sacrifice bunt to move the runner into scoring position. Rebecca Consbrock reached on a field error by the Raiders that allowed Crawford to come all the way around to score the winning run.
Sara Eggleston went the route for the Tigers, pitching seven strong innings. North Shelby was held to just two hits. Eggleston walked three batters while striking out 11.
