Milan No Match For SCR-I Softball Squad
Scotland County's Sara Eggleston had her bid at a no-hitter broken up in the sixth inning while her teammates were far from hitless on offense as the Lady Tigers easily defeated Milan 11-0 September 24.
It took a little while for the SCR-I offense to come to life as the two teams were scoreless through three innings. But in the top of the fourth Scotland County erupted for six runs as 11 batters were sent to the plate while the team batted around.
Meagan Fromm led off the inning with a double. She scored when clean-up hitter Jenna Shalley followed that up with another double. That was the first of six consecutive batters to reach base.
Brandi Mallett was hit by a pitch before Valerie Crawford reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Jessie Cotton reached base on an error scoring Shalley. Right fielder Rebecca Consbrock then plated two more runs with a single. Eggleston and Amy Blomme both reached on errors allowing two more runs to cross the plate putting SCR-I ahead 6-0.
Eggleston was nearly perfect on the day, finishing with just three hits allowed as well as one walk. She shut out Milan while striking out a season-high 12 batters to improve to 8-3 on the year.
Scotland County made the lead 7-0 in the sixth inning when Cotton singled and came around to score on a hit by Brenna Cook.
The final four runs came in the top of the seventh inning. Fromm led off with a single. Shalley cracked out her second double of the game. Mallett followed that with a double to make the score 9-0. Cotton topped off the perfect game for SCR-I when she hit the team's first homerun of the year to make the final score 11-0.
Shalley led the hit parade with a 3-4 performance. Cotton and Fromm each had two hits as the team got hits from nine different batters in the game.
The road win improved the team's record to 3-1 in Tri-Rivers Conference play this season and 8-3 overall.
