Lady Tigers JV Team Continues Winning Ways
The Scotland County junior varsity softball team continued its winning ways with a pair of victories last week.
The Lady Tigers knocked off Knox County 9-4 September 17 in Edina. SCR-I blew the game open with six runs in the second inning. The offense was solid despite a slow night for the two, three and four hitters. That group went hitless while the bottom of the order pounded out 12 hits in the win.
Six different players had two hits in the game. That list included Brittney Courtright, Ali Fromm, Monica Schmitz, Kate Schneider, Rebecca Consbrock and lead off hitter Jamie Fuller.
"We are continuing our torrid hitting," said coach Josh Smith. "There's not much a team can do when the ball is hit as hard as we are hitting it right now. Instead of playing defense it almost comes down to playing self-defense."
Consbrock picked up the victory on the mound for Scotland County going five innings. She allowed four hits and walked three while striking out five.
"We had a good game defensively behind our pitcher with only two errors," said coach Smith.
The runs kept coming and coming for SCR-I when the team took on Brookfield September 23 in front of the home crowd in Memphis.
The Lady Tigers crossed the plate 19 times in a 19-4 victory that was ended in the fourth inning by the 15-run rule.
Jacqui Drummond fueled the scoring with a 4-4 performance at the plate including five RBI. Ashley Ellison went 2-3. Jamie Fuller was 1-2 with three runs scored and three RBI and Angie Bulen was 1-1 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Consbrock went four innings to improve to 6-1 on the mound this year. She allowed four runs, only two earned, on four hits and four walks.
