Lady Tigers Stay Perfect On Season With Win Over Knox County

The Scotland County infield huddles before the start of the second inning in the Lady Tigers game against Knox County September 5. SCR-I got off to a 3-0 start to the season with a win over the Eagles.

The Scotland County softball team remained perfect on the young softball season, extending the team's winning streak to three with a 2-0 victory over Knox County September 5 in Memphis.

Another streak played a large part in the win as SCR-I extended it's errorless innings streak to 14. Knox County's defense was not as fortunate as a pair of miscues by the Lady Eagles directly accounted for the two Scotland County runs.

The Lady Tigers jumped on top in the bottom of the first frame. Sara Eggleston led off with a single. She stole second base and scored when Meagan Fromm reached on a fielding error by the shortstop.

SCR-I was fortunate to get the early tally as Knox County's Marcie McMahon settled down after that and retired the next six batters.

Knox County threatened to tie the game in the bottom of the second. A walk followed by a bloop single put runners at first and second with only one out. But Eggleston stepped up to the challenge and struck out the next two batters to preserve the lead.

In the bottom of the third inning Amy Blomme singled and Fromm reached on an error to give SCR-I a pair of base runners. But McMahon started another dominating stretch, getting the next two batters to start a string of eight consecutive outs.

Knox County got a runner to third base in the fourth inning but could not plate the run. Blomme made a nice defensive play at second base to end the fifth inning with the Lady Tigers still on top 1-0.

Scotland County added an insurance run in the sixth inning. Fromm singled to reach base for the third time in the game. She moved to second on a wild pitch and then on to third by a nice sacrifice bunt from Becky Miller. Another pitch got away from the Knox County catcher allowing Fromm to slide in to home safely.

But Knox County did not go quietly. A single and a walk put the tieing runners on base with no outs. Eggleston struck out the next two batters before another hit loaded the bases. Lauren Stansberry hit a sharp grounder back to the mound where Eggleston fielded the ball cleanly and threw over to Jennifer Crawford to record the final out and preserve the shut out.

Eggleston allowed no runs on just four hits. She walked two while striking out 11 to improve to 3-0 on the year.

The Lady Tigers managed just three hits on the day, but two of those came around to score. Eggleston, Blomme and Meagan Fromm each went 1-3.

McMahon allowed just the three hits and walked none while striking out six.
