Second Annual Junior Tourney Draws Youthful Golfers To Timber Ridge

Thirty golfers between the ages of 10 and 16 traveled to Memphis July 27 for the Second Annual Timber Ridge Junior Golf Tournament.

The event was open to boys and girls competing in three different age groups.

Kelly Lister captured the title in the girls 10-11 year old division shooting a round of 63. Megan Newman won the 12-13 year old girls class with a score of 71.

Kiley Watson sealed his victory in the 10-11 year old boys division with a par on hole number nine. He finished the round with a score of 51. Kyle Shelley took second place in the class with a 56 while Collin Schultz was third with a 69.

The 12-13 year old boys rounded out the morning play with a large group of 10 golfers. The competition was tight with three players tying for the best score with rounds of 49. Nathan Stock won the tiebreaker to take top honors. Alex Raleigh was second with Jacob Shipman finishing third.

Kale Watson and Colby Brown were just two strokes off the pace with scores of 51. Zach McBee was also in striking distance with a 52. Other participants were Jeff Kice, Zach Peterson, Cory Schultz and Loren Billington.

The afternoon round saw the 14-15 year old age groups playing in an 18-hole tournament.

Shayna Schoonover birdied hole number one on her way to a 39 on the front nine. She was just one stroke off that pace on the back nine, finishing with a score of 79 to win the girls division.

Chance Raleigh played a nearly perfect back nine, with just two bogies, to trim three strokes from his front nine score, carding a 36. He finished the 18 holes with a round of 75 to win the tourney.

Joel Klusmeyer birdied hole number two on both the front and back nines on his way to a round of 77 to earn second place in the event. One bad hole, a seven on hole number six on the front nine, was the only blemish on Kyle Lister's score card as the Scotland County player wrapped up the day with a 78, just three strokes off the lead to take home the third place trophy.

Chris Edgar also broke the 80 mark with 79 to finish fourth. Marcus Shalley was fifth with a score of 86.
