Regulators Honoring Heatherís Memory
Heather Fogle is in the hearts of all, but especially in the hearts of a local slowpitch softball team. In the summer of 2001, Heather played in various slowpitch tournaments with a group of her best friends. Throughout the summer the team became very close and Heather looked forward to continuing on with the 2002 season.
But on January 11 tragedy struck the team and struck it hard when two teammates were involved in a tragic car accident which took the life of Heather Fogle. Team members spent the entire winter and spring recovering from the loss, but ultimately knew that Heather would want them to continue.
The team did just that, heading into the 2002 season taking a small part of their past with them to every tournament. Several area sponsors pitched in to uniform the team named the Regulators. The players designed the uniforms complete with a black bar with lettering "Heather Fogle #21" remembering their lost teammate.
The shirts were completed but the Regulators were not. They knew they were still missing a large part, Heather. At the same time the teammates knew they obviously were not the only ones missing their teammate. Heather's family - her mother, Debbie, father, Faron and brother, Jake were all still feeling the loss.
The Regulators found a way to show the family that Heather still is in the hearts and thoughts of the team everyday. Each trophy won by the softball team this season has been presented to Debbie, Faron and Jake. Thus far this year the Regulators have entered three tournaments and have presented the Fogle family with two second place and one championship trophy from their toils. The team also has played in two money tourneys finishing first at Troy, IA and second at Cantril, IA.
But the biggest tournament of the year is still to come. The Regulators will be in action in Memphis on August 10 and 11 at Johnson Park. Debbie, Faron, Jake, the Regulators and friends will host the First Annual Heather Fogle Memorial Tournament. All proceeds from the event and the sale of memorial t-shirts (available in all sizes) will go to the Heather Fogle Memorial Fund. The public is encouraged to attend the event and remember Fogle as she performed in one of her favorite pastimes, softball.
The Regulators team is sponsored by Cunningham Fertilizer, Pepsi-Cola Memphis Bottling Company, Mayberry Farms, The Catfish Place, Scotland County Lanes, and Gas-&-More.
