SCR-I Campus Bowl Team Bows Out In District Championship Match

After an up and down regular season the Scotland County varsity campus bowl was one win away from the state championship before bowing out on a run at the district title.

The Tigers opened district play with an easy 380-140 victory over Knox County. After a slow start SCR-I opened up the scoring midway through the second period and built a 195-60 lead at the intermission. That was as close as it would get as Ryan Hinds and Michael Lodewegen combined for 160 points to lead the Tigers to victory. John Grogan added 30 points and Jennifer Crawford finished with 20.

Game two boiled down to the final few questions as the Tigers advanced with a hard-fought 325-295 win against Schuyler County. The two teams traded the lead back and forth for most of the contest before SCR-I pulled out the win. Hinds had 70 points to top the scoring. Crawford and Lodewegen each had 40.

Game three was less stressful for the Tigers and their fans as Scotland County held Westran to just 30 points in the second half en route to the 295-95 triumph. Hinds led all scorers with 90 points. Crawford had her best performance of the day with 50 points while Lodewegen added 40 and Jason Findling contributed 20.

Scotland County ran into the host team, Canton, in the tournament semi-finals. The match was as close as possible in the first half with SCR-I holding the slimmest of advantages at the break 155-150.

The margin grew slightly in the third period before Scotland County pulled away in the fourth period. Hinds secured his selection to the All-District Campus Bowl team with a tourney high 110 points. Lodewegen topped his scoring day off with 70 points and Crawford had 20.

The tourney final started well for the Tigers as the two teams played to a 70-70 tie in the first period. The game slipped away from Scotland County midway through the second period when Glasgow went on a 100-15 run on the final five questions to build a 250-155 lead at the intermission.

It was all downhill from there as Glasgow rolled to the 440-260 win and on to the state tourney.

Six different Tigers scored led by Hinds with 60 points. Lodewegen had 50 followed by Crawford with 40, Findling with 20, Grogan and Brian Dial with 10.
