SCR-I Golfers Open Season With Victory
The Scotland County golf team opened the 2002 season in successful fashion with a strong showing against two Tri-Rivers Conference teams March 28 at Timber Ridge Golf Course in Memphis.
Not only did the varsity team win the event but the Tigers junior varsity squad came in second place, besting both the Putnam County and Knox County varsity squads.
The SCR-I varsity team finished the event with a score of 155, well ahead of Knox County's 190 and Putnam County with a 191.
Chase Moore picked up right where he left off last year as a state qualifier, leading the team with a round of 38. Fellow junior Andy Boyer matched the score with a 38.
Two other underclassmen, junior Josh McBee and sophomore Corvin Drummond were not far off the pace with scores of 39 and 40. McBee came up with the lone birdie of the afternoon, carding a two on hole number three. Vince Rockhold rounded out the first team performance with a 47.
The junior varsity team ended the day with a 181 score led by Josh Marlowe with a 41. Brian Dial carded a 44 followed by Nick Oldham and Ryan Hinds with scores of 47. Brock Meeks had a 49 and Micheal Monroe shot a 75.
