Moore, Holt Voted Top Tigers By Tri-Rivers Coaching Staffs
A much better second half to the basketball season has the Scotland County Tigers boys varsity team looking toward the 2002-2003 season.
While the games are finalized this year there are still some loose ends being tied up by the teams. Coaches from the Tri-Rivers Conference met last week and announced the league's All-Conference teams. Scotland County placed two players on the all-star squad.
Two SCR-I guards were named to the All-Conference second team.
Scotland County's leading scorer Chase Moore earned second team honors after leading the Tigers with a 10.5 scoring average. He also dished out 5.5 assists per night to lead the team. The junior will be part of a fairly deep returning class for the Tigers next year.
SCR-I will have to replace guard Aarron Holt, who was named to the second team all-conference squad for the second consecutive year. Holt averaged 9.8 points per night and was the team's leading three-point shooter. Holt also averaged two steals per contest as one of the team's defensive stoppers.
The Tigers went through a variety of starting line-ups during the year that featured six different seniors opening the games for SCR-I.
Late in the year however the Tigers often had two juniors and two sophomores on the court in crunch time.
While the team will miss the graduating seniors there is enough talent returning to go along with a solid sophomore group that completed a successful junior varsity year to help get the fans thinking about next year.
