Canton Coasts To 59-35 Win Over SCR-I In Boys Contest
The Tigers newfound offensive punch came to a screeching halt, along with the team's season-high three game winning streak February 19 when Canton visited Memphis.
After pouring on the points to beat Knox County and Marion County the Tigers made it three in a row over not with offense but with defense when they shut down Schuyler County.
The team could do neither against Canton, as SCR-I did not have a single player reach double digits in scoring while allowing 33 points to Canton in the second and third period.
The results were a 59-35 victory for Canton which seemed to verify the latter's second ranking in the upcoming district tournament. SCR-I would not run into the team again unless it was in the championship contest.
Scotland County stayed close through the first period thanks in large part to the defense. The Tigers scored just nine points but held Canton to only 12 to stay close.
Canton returned the favor in period two as SCR-I was limited to just four points. Canton on the other hand solved the Tigers defense to the tune of 18 second quarter points to blow the game open with a 30-13 lead at the break.
That proved to be the difference as the teams played a relatively even second half. Six different players scored a basket for SCR-I in the quarter but Canton matched the feat and expanded the margin to 45-24.
Chase Moore and Robbie Miller each hit a couple buckets in the fourth period but the Tigers could not cut into the deficit as Canton went on to the 59-35 victory.
Moore led Scotland County with seven points. Miller finished with six and Aarron Holt, Clint Cottrell, and Brad Holt each had five points. Eight different Tigers got into the scorebook as coach Marc Colvin played on 10 players in the contest trying to find the right combination.
