Tigers Campus Bowl Team Takes Third At Mark Twain Tourney

The Scotland County campus bowl team made it five games deep into the Mark Twain Quiz Bowl Championship before ever being challenged. The challenge finally came from conference rival North Shelby in the event's semi-finals. SCR-I came up on the short end of the contest but rebound to capture the third place trophy for the event.

The Tigers opened against Monroe City and found the stiffest competition of the first round. The Tigers built a 130-95 lead at intermission. That margin held for most of the second half until SCR-I put the game away for the 280-200 win. Ryan Hinds topped the scoring with 80 points. Michael Lodewegen added 50 points while John Grogan had 40.

Game two was a bit less challenging, at least in the second half. Glasgow actually led the contest midway through the first half before the Tigers exploded in the second half for the 390-195 win. Hinds topped the scoring with 90 points followed by Grogan and Lodewegen with 40 and Jennifer Crawford with 30.

Game three was a cake walk for Scotland County as the Tigers rolled to an easy 240-85 win over Canton. Hinds answered five toss-ups while Lodewegen had the correct answer on four questions.

Paris was the next victim of the Tigers run toward the finals as Scotland County opened the championship bracket play with a huge 345-170 victory. Hinds led the scoring with 80 points followed by Grogan with 50. Lodwegen pitched in with 40 while Crawford, Brian Dial and Jason Findling each had 10 points.

The run ended for Scotland County in the semi-finals as North Shelby rallied from behind midway through the first half en route to the 340-220 win over the Tigers.

The tide shifted in the second quarter when a 95-55 SCR-I lead disappeared in just three bonus questions. The Tigers could not stem the momentum as the Raiders pulled ahead 170-115 at half and never looked back.

Hinds finished with 50 points while Lodewegen and Crawford each ended up with 30 points.

Scotland County rebounded from the defeat to knock off Monroe City for the second time on the day, 315-220, and capture the third place trophy.

Hinds led the way with 60 points while Grogan added 50 in the winning effort.
