Lady Tigers Give Gift Of Victory On Valentines Day

It wasn't flowers, candy or even a card but the Scotland County Lady Tigers did come up with a Valentine's Day gift for coach Andrea Dabney in the form of a furious fourth quarter comeback to beat Marion County 50-46 on February 14.

The standard box-and-one defenses that SCR-I's leading scorer Meagan Fromm has had to deal with all season did not do the job. The junior forward had 19 points including eight big points in the fourth quarter.

While Fromm was big in the game the key contributions came from Amy Blomme and Jennifer Crawford.

Blomme was four of six from behind the arc. The biggest three pointer came midway through the fourth period when SCR-I rallied from a 39-31 deficit to tie the game.

"I turned to (assistant coach) Josh Smith and told him that was a big shot and in my mind I knew it was the point where were going to take charge of the game," stated Dabney.

Crawford came off the bench for her best game of the season. The junior forward scored eight points and added six rebounds to give her team a huge boost.

"Jennifer stepped in when we needed her and gave us a great effort," Dabney stated. "She had a couple baskets during the fourth period that helped us turn the game around."

Scotland County fell behind 15-12 in the first period and never was able to regain the lead until Blomme's three pointer in the fourth period. Marion County built a 25-20 half time advantage squarely on the shoulders of center Leah Wilson who scored 18 of her game-high 25 points in the first half.

Scotland County found itself trailing 39-31 heading into the final period. The Lady Tigers turned the corner in the final eight minutes, outscoring Marion County 19-7 to come from behind for the win.

Fromm and Crawford combined for 12 points in the comeback. The team also got scores from Katie Kittle and Jessie Cotton to go along with Blomme's three pointer.

Fromm finished with 19 points to lead Scotland County. Blomme had 12 points on the night and Crawford finished with a season-high eight points.
