Tigers Play Nearly Perfect Game In 76-33 Domination Of Knox County

You would have been hard pressed to come up with a better story line to help the Scotland County basketball team celebrate 2002 Courtwarming than the 76-33 demolition of Knox County February 8.

The Tigers have struggled all season long in the second half of games but that was definitely not the case in this contest. SCR-I exploded for 47 points after the intermission to blow the doors off what had been a fairly close game at 29-20 at the break.

Scotland County started well from the perimeter as Brad Holt and Aarron Holt both hit three pointers. Chase Moore then dished out the assist to Clint Cottrell in the paint. Aaron Dale continued the strong passing game with an assist to Aarron Holt for an easy bucket. But the scoring slowed down until Aaron Dale finalized the first period with a driving score to put the Tigers ahead 12-7.

Moore got things rolling in the second period as he scored seven of the Tigers first eight points of the period. Fellow underclassmen Jake Fogle and Clint Cottrell did the rest of the damage, teaming up for the final nine points to help the Tigers to a 29-20 halftime lead.

All the Tigers frustrations from tough losses and disappointing performances evaporated in the third period as Scotland County simply was on fire, amassing 28 points in the eight-minute span.

Aarron Holt and Clint Cottrell did the bulk of the scoring, each hitting for eight points during the stretch. More importantly the team seamed to gel as a squad with impressive ball movement and passing. Moore and Fogle each added five points in the run, including a three pointer at the buzzer by Moore. When the smoke cleared Scotland County had built a 57-29 lead.

The Tigers reserves got some big minutes in the fourth period and the team did not miss a beat. Courtwarming King Tim Buford started the scoring with a steal and lay-up. Michael Lodewegen poured in seven points in the quarter and was a perfect 3-3 from the free throw line.

Aarron Holt led the way for Scotland County with 16 points. Cottrell and Fogle each ended the night with 14 points while Moore pitched in with 12.

The victory makes the Tigers 1-4 in league play with games remaining at against Schuyler County and Brookfield. Overall the team has a 5-14 record.
