Tigers Take Raiders Best For Three Quarters Before Faltering
The Scotland County Tigers were coming off a strong finish at the North Shelby Tournament but were faced with a tough task of beating the tourney champion, the Raiders. The team looked up for the challenge through three periods but turnovers toppled the upset bid as North Shelby held on for the 47-36 win.
Scotland County built a 14-11 lead in the first period as the Tigers continued to play strong coming off the tourney run. Robbie Miller had a couple baskets in the paint while Chase Moore and Aarron Holt each had three points in the opening frame.
The two teams traded baskets in the second period and SCR-I went to the locker room with a 25-23 advantage.
The momentum slowed a bit in the third period as North Shelby held the Tigers to just five points and pulled ahead 33-30. However the Tigers were still well within striking distance.
But the wheels fell off the run for Scotland County in the fourth period as several key turnovers turned a close game into an easy 47-36 win for the Raiders.
"We played really well for three quarters before the turnovers took over in the fourth period," said Coach Marc Colvin. "That has been our problem most of the year. We just need to take better care of the ball."
Aarron Holt finished with 10 points to tie for game high honors. T.J. Redd and Andrew Eitel each had 10 points to pace North Shelby. Moore finished with eight points for SCR-I and Jake Fogle added five.
