Lady Tigers Beat Knox County For Third Straight Time
The Scotland County Lady Tigers didn't look like they wanted anything to do with another close game with Knox County as they opened up a commanding lead in the first half of the opening round of the North Shelby Tournament Janaury14.
But just like the two previous match ups between the rivals, the game boiled down to the final seconds and for the third time this year SCR-I beat the Eagles by two points or less with a 46-44 win.
Scotland County took the lead early behind Amy Blomme who had a strong first quarter with a couple of three pointers and eight total points in the period.
The Lady Tigers continued to build the advantage in the second period as Sara Norton gave the team strong interior play as she scored six points, including four-for-four from the free throw line. Meagan Fromm put in five points before the half and Scotland County led 25-16 at the break.
The Eagles battled back in the third period, outscoring SCR-I 16-13 in the third period to pull within six points at 38-32. Fromm kept the Lady Tigers on top with eight points in the quarter while Jessie Cotton added a three pointer.
The rally continued in the fourth period as SCR-I managed just eight points but it was enough to hold on for the 46-44 win.
Fromm led Scotland County with 17 points as she tied for game-high honors with Knox County's Jennifer Collier. Blomme put up 11 points and Norton finished with 10 while Cotton pitched in with six.
