SCR-I Tigers Drop Tournament Opener To Brashear 54-38
Brashear proved why it was the #3 seed in the North Shelby Tourney, dispatching Scotland County to the consolation side of the bracket with a 54-38 loss in the opening round January 14.
The Tigers fell behind 22-6 in the first period as Brashear's Nathan Kelsey poured in 14 of his game-high 19 points in the opening frame.
"We were out-rebounded start to finish and missed a lot of inside shots," said Coach Marc Colvin. "Kelsey did a lot of catching and shooting to beat the defense early on. Brashear was a complete team, only using two players off the bench."
The Tigers cut into the deficit in the second period to make the score 29-20 at half time. Aaron Dale had six points in the first period and Kirk Stott had five as SCR-I tried to claw its way back into the contest.
Neither team got much going in the third period offensively as SCR-I outscored Brashear six to five before the door was slammed shut in the fourth quarter by a 20-12 run by Brashear.
Stott led Scotland County in scoring with seven points. Dale and Aarron Holt finished with six and Clint Cottrell and Chase Moore each had five.
