Lady Tigers Get Back To .500 With Win Over Canton
The Scotland County Lady Tigers got back to the .500 mark on the season while getting the opportunity to get playing time for the team's reserves in a 47-30 victory over Canton January 11.
The team built a 14-2 lead in the first quarter allowing Coach Andrea Dabney the opportunity to get her bench some experience.
"I substituted a lot throughout the game and I was pleased to see how well all 10 girls played," Dabney said. "Our press did not cause as many turnovers as we had hoped, but overall I was pleased with how we played."
Jessie Cotton led the charge in the first period with seven points and solid defense at the top of the full court press. Fellow guard Amy Blomme added four points in the run as the Lady Tigers took charge of the game.
Canton trimmed the deficit by just one point in the second period as the Lady Tigers held firm to a 25-14 lead at the break behind the play of Katie Kittle and Jennifer Crawford. Cotton hit a three pointer and Meagan Fromm added four points to keep the team on top.
The third quarter saw Sara Norton get into the act with four points. The guard trip of Blomme, Brenna Cook and Rebecca Consbrock added six points before a three pointer by Fromm made the score 38-29.
That proved to be the margin of victory as the Lady Tigers maintained the nine-point advantage in the fourth period to post the 47-38 win.
Nine of the 10 Lady Tigers made it into the scorebook led by 12 points from Fromm. Cotton finished with 11 followed by Norton with eight and Blomme with six. Rebecca Consbrock, Brandi Mallett, Crawford, Kittle and Brenna Cook each added a basket in the win.
