Paul William Westhoff, 90, of Memphis, MO, passed away December 12, 2002, in the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO. The third son of William Harmon and Versa Mary (Forte) Westhoff, he was born on November 11, 1912, north of Downing, in Schuyler County, MO. He spent several years in a Catholic orphange in St. Joseph, MO, at a young age after the death of his parents. Paul then returned to Scotland County in his teens and worked for local farmer, Rod McKenzie. Eventually he began to farm on his own and did so until his retirement. Paul loved the outdoors and was a faithful steward of the land. He was also kind and humane to his animals. His hobbies included gardening, reading, and watching television. On September 22, 1940, he was married to Norma Euleta Biggs of Memphis, MO. To this union two sons were born, Larry M. and Earl W. Paul was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose family was the most important thing in his life. As a member of the First Christian Church in Memphis, MO, he attended regularly until failing health. Paul became a resident of the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO on October 7, 1997. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Norma, on January 10, 1986; his son, Earl W. Westhoff, on April 21, 1996; three brothers, Leo, Harley, and Victor; and one brother, who died in infancy, Merle Francis. Survivors include his son, Larry Westhoff and wife Caunita of Florissant, MO; his daughter-in-law, Peggy Westhoff Brown and husband, Ronnie of Memphis, MO; one brother, Buell Westhoff and wife, Lillian of St. Joseph, MO; two grandsons, Scott Westhoff and wife, Angela, and Stacy Westhoff and wife, Beth, both of Memphis, MO; two granddaughters, Amy Westhoff Sansone and husband, Joe of Maryland Heights, MO, and Laura Westhoff of Florissant, MO; five great-grandchildren, Megan, Shelby, Ashley, Kaci, and Trevor Westhoff, all of Memphis, MO; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on December 15, 2002, in the First Christian Church in Memphis, MO, with Pastor Jack Sumption and Reverend Ernest Deatrick officiating. Special music was provided by Ann Luther, organist, and Joe Fulk, vocalist. Serving as pallbearers were Scott Westhoff, Stacy Westhoff, Vaughn Biggs, John Aylward, Joe Eddie Harvey, and Larry Riney. Honorary bearers were Bob Shanes and Dwayne Summers. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO. Memorials have been suggested to the Scotland County Care Center, Memphis, MO. Arrangements were handled by Gerth Funeral Service from their Memphis, MO chapel.
