CLARENCE RAY "SUG" CUNNINGHAM

Clarence Ray "Sug" Cunningham, 74, of Memphis, MO, died November 19, 2002, at his home.

"Sug" was born June 22, 1928, at Cantril, IA, to Jesse Lee and Cyrena Marjorie Sloan Cunningham.

He was a graduate of Cantril High School, class of 1945.

He married Marilyn Elma Cortum on November 19, 1949, at Bloomfield, IA.

While growing up he attended the Christian Church. He was employed by Morgan Company in Memphis, working at the gas station, the propane service and with the fertilizer business. He then started his fertilizer company and remained active in the business. He was a member of the MO-Ag and a social member of the Wallace W. Gillespie Memorial Post 4958 VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughters, Marjorie Durham and husband, Wayne of Arbela, MO and Monica Cunningham of Lewistown, MO; two sons, Alan Cunningham and Gary Cunningham of Memphis, MO; 11 grandchildren, Cyrena Holtmyer, Shane Durham, Travis Durham, Alica Durham, Janessa Mathney, Donica Darland, Dewayne Durham, Terence Durham, James Cunningham, Alta Buford and Rae Ann Murray; eight great-grand-children; a brother, Robert Cunningham of Ottumwa, IA; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald, in infancy.

Funeral services were held November 23, 2002, in the Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, MO, with the Reverend Eloise Marx officiating. Joe Fulk was organist. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery at Cantril, IA. Casketbearers were Jack Sharp, John Aylward, Don Fromm, "Coney" Baker, James Dale Baker, Roger Grant, Steve Morris, Rick Golbricht and Travis Durham. Honorary casketbearers were Paul Clough, John Rempe, Jim McGuire, Bob Stevenson, Bill Morgan and Dick Harward. Memorials have been suggested to the Missouri Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, MO was in charge of arrangements.
