Charles Stafford Walker, 80, of Kirksville, MO, passed away November 15, 2002, at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO. The son of Homer O. and Ethel A. (St. Clair) Walker, he was born June 4, 1922, in Hickory County, MO. On October 15, 1947, in Clark County, MO, he was united in marriage to Oreta Marie Speer and she preceded him in death on June 5, 1982. Also preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Edward and Leland Walker. Surviving is one son, Homer Walker and wife, Mary of Springfield, MO; one daughter, Cheyrl Newland and husband, B.J. of Kirksville, MO; six grandchildren, Rachel and Natalie Walker of Springfield, MO, and Marie, Emily, Charles and John Newland of Kirksville, MO; one sister, Wilma Dunlap of Kirksville, MO; and several nieces and nephews. Charles was raised in Fairmont, MO and graduated from Fairmont High School with the class of 1937. He served in the United States Army during World War II from November 1942 until December of 1945 serving in England, France, Belgium and Germany. He was employed by The National Business Machines Corporation and was a salesman and serviceman for a 100-mile area around Boise, ID. He returned to Kirksville, MO in the fall of 1959, where he attended and graduated from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State) with a Business Administration degree in 1965. He was a charter member of the Hamilton Street Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was a member of D.A.V. post #48. He enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, baking and cooking. Funeral services were held November 18, 2002, at the First Baptist Church, Kirksville, MO. Burial was in Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville, MO. Memorials in memory of Charles can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Association. Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, Kirksville, MO.
