Francis Harold Boyd, 79, of Milton, IA, died September 12, 2002, at Walker, MN.

He was born September 13, 1922, in Grand River, IA, to Elmer and Anna Hanson Boyd.

He married Hazel Hunter, July 7, 1945, in Memphis, MO.

He was a self-employed heavy equipment operator working in soil conservation for over 55 years. He was a member of the Russell Strait Post 483 of the American Legion of Milton, Knights Templer of Ottumwa, Masonic Franklin Lodge 14 A.F. & A.M. of Bloomfield, IA, Board member of the Milton Volunteer Firefighters and a Scout Master for Troop 95 for several years.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel of Milton, IA; three daughters, Myra Madden of Bloomfield, IA, Teresa Cole of Cantril, IA, and Tamara Van Pelt of Des Moines, IA; two sons, Francis H. Jr. of Moulton, IA, and Doug of Milton, IA; 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sylvia Sampson of Bonaparte, IA.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Philip Marlow, Jr.; two sisters, Ruby Shaw and Aletha Folker and six brothers, Clyde Ray, Harl, Gerald and two brothers in infancy.

Masonic Services were held September 15, 2002, by Franklin Lodge #14 at the Henkenius-Priester Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established to the Milton Volunteer Fire Fighters.

Funeral services were held September 16, 2002, at the Milton Christian Church, Milton, IA, with the Rev. Justin DeVries officiating. Burial with military rites by the Russell Strait Post 483 was at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton, IA. Honorary casket bearers were Lon Creath, Ned Cook, Ernest Birchmier, Rich Kopera, Bob Daniels and Gene Robinson. Active casket bearers were Newt Clendenen, Donald Muntz, Robert Holsapple, Russell Trachsel, Jim Clendenen, and Chuck Leonard. Henkenius-Priester was in charge of arrangements.
