Bette J. Shoemaker, 76, of Sterling, IL, died March 31, 2002, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, April 4, 2002, at the McDonald Funeral Home and Crematory in Rock Falls, IL, with Reverend Larry Thomson of Rock Falls United Methodist Church officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2002, 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established to the American Diabetes Foundation and Rock Falls United Methodist Church.

Bette J. Shoemaker was born on September 29, 1925, in Harvard, IL, the daughter of Frank and Florence (Schufelt) Schuldt.

She married Henry G. Shoemaker in Keokuk, IA on February 23, 1946. He died in November of 1985.

Mrs. Shoemaker was employed for 26 years in the office of Community General Hospital in Sterling, IL, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Rock Falls United Methodist Church; Brownie and Girl Scout Leader from 1955 to 1965; selected as a Girl Scout Counselor for the 50th Girl Scout Senior Round-Up in Button Bay, VT, in 1962; served as secretary of the Jane Addams Council of Girl Scouts out of Freeport, IL; served on the Board of Directors of CGH Credit Union; Rebekah Lodge No. 70.

Surviving is one daughter, Penny and Dwight (Tim) Branch of Gorin, MO; one sister, Donna Erb of Vanderwagon, NM; one sister-in-law, Doris Schuldt of Novi, MI; several nieces and nephews; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Marlene Lewis and Margaret Hallett; two brothers, Melvin (Bud) Schuldt and Darrel Schuldt.
