Violet Lorene Ingraham of Memphis, MO, formerly of Queen City, MO, passed away February 24, 2002, in the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO.

The daughter of Chester F. and Iva Charlotte (McBee) Kirkpatrick, she was born April 12, 1911, in Schuyler County, MO.

On June 1, 1934, in Queen City, MO, she was united in marriage to Gordon M. Ingraham, who preceded her in death.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; a son-in-law, E.F. (Bill) Mallett; and great-grandson, Timothy John Mallett.

Violet is survived by one daughter, Betty Mallett of Memphis, MO; one brother, Pearl Kirkpatrick of Queen City, MO; five grandchildren, Dana Hughes and husband, Jerry of Kirksville, MO, Gary Mallett and wife, Tammy of Baring, MO, Mari Mallett of Kirksville, MO, Mark Mallett and his wife, Linda of Baring, MO, and Jay Mallett and his wife, Naomi of Gracey, KY; 11 great-grandchildren, Stephanie Graves and husband, Jamie, Steven Huffman, Curtis Mallett and wife, Jenny, Andy Mallett, Raymond Huffman, Brandi Mallett, Tony Mallett, James Mallett, Tad Mallett and Jerri Lyn Hughes, and two great-great-grandchildren, Hunter Graves and Lane Graves.

Mrs. Ingraham was reared in Schuyler County, MO. She graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University) in 1959. She taught at Prairie View, Gibbs, Bible Grove and the Schuyler County Junior High School. In 1974, she received the Outstanding Teacher of America Award based on her professional and civic achievements.

She was an active member of the Kirksville Baptist Church and taught Sunday School, Bible School and Training Union for over 50 years until October 2000, when she moved to Memphis, MO.

She loved to sew, crochet, quilt and do crafts and shared these gifts with her family and friends.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. in the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Kirksville, MO. Reverend Clay Joiner will conduct the service. Music will be provided by Jim Shaddy, soloist, and Mabel Reed, organist. Burial will be in the Fugate Cemetery in Schuyler County, MO. Casket bearers will be her great-grandsons. Memorials in memory of Violet can be made to the Missouri Baptist Home in Chillicothe, MO, or the American Cancer Society. Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, Kirksville, MO was in charge of arrangements.
