CLARENCE ADRIAN HICKS

Clarence Adrian Hicks, 87, of Danville, IA, formerly of Memphis, MO, passed away February 10, 2002, while a patient at the Great Rivers Medical Center, West Burlington, IA. He had resided at the Danville Care Center, Danville, IA for the past 14 months.
He was born March 20, 1914, in the community of Sandhill near Rutledge, in Scotland County, MO, the son of Pearl Adrian and Mary Martha Ryan Hicks. He was their second child and only son.
He attended Chaney Grade School and Rutledge High School.
He married Mildred Madeleine Ewing, July 3, 1936, in Unionville, MO. After their marriage they lived near Rutledge, MO, before moving northwest of Memphis, MO, where they lived and farmed for 33 years. They retired to Memphis in 1977.
Clarence was a charter member of the Scotland County Historical Society, Depot Museum Renovation, a 4-H leader, Democrat chairman for Union Township and director for Leeper School District.
Surviving are his sons, Dean Hicks and wife, Jeanne of Las Vegas, NV, and Phillip Hicks and wife, Linda of Danville, IA; seven grandchildren, Rodney Hicks of Oskaloosa, IA, Michael Hicks of San Francisco, CA, Jeffrey Hicks of Bozeman, MT, Scot Hicks of Las Vegas, NV, Kevin Hicks of Barksdale AFB, LA, Stephen Hicks of Jackson, MI, and Kimberly Hicks of Winterset, IA; eight great-grandchildren, Grant, Jason and Joel Hicks of Oskaloosa, IA, Isabelle, Caroline Hicks of San Francisco, CA, Kennedy Anderson of Winterset, IA, Emily and Jacob Hicks of New London, IA; close and personal family members, Don Ewing, Bob and Mildred Ewing, Pat Witt, Leta Ewing, Carol Joan Blackwell, and special friend, Helen Overfield; and a host of friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Madeleine Ewing Hicks a marriage of 57 years, his parents and sister.
The family has suggested memorials to the Pauline Cemetery.
Funeral services were held February 14, 2002, at the Rutledge New Testament Church in Rutledge, MO, with Rev. Charles Hammack officiating. Musicians were Angela Westhoff and Joan Goosey. Body bearers were Kevin Hicks, Stephen Hicks, Rodney Hicks, Michael Hicks, Scot Hicks, Larry Ewing, and John Witt. Interment was in the Pauline Cemetery, Rutledge, MO. Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO was in charge of arrangements.
