Gorin Woman Stranded On Car Roof After Car Crashes Into Creek
A stranded motorist was found by a passerby after spending what she claimed was about three hours on the roof of her car after her vehicle traveled off the roadway near a bridge and came to rest in a creek.
Cynthia Burkhart, 41, of Gorin suffered minor injuries in the one-vehicle crash on Route U, two miles east of Gorin November 15.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Burkhart was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Lumina when the car went off the roadway. The driver over-corrected and then apparently lost control of the vehicle, which overturned before coming to rest in a creek on its wheels.
Burkhart apparently climbed from the vehicle and waited on the roof of the car until found by a motorist that had stopped to investigate the skid marks near the bridge at approximately 8:00 a.m. The Patrol accident report stated the crash occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m.
The Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Scotland County Sheriff's Department, Scotland County Fire and Rescue and Scotland County Ambulance.
Burkhart was arrested for driving while revoked and Driving While Intoxicated - 3rd Offense.
