Clark County Sheriff In Hot Water Again
More than a year after his alleged sexual misconduct with an inmate, Clark County Sheriff Doug Jones has been charged in the case.
Jones, 37, was charged for allegedly lying to an FBI officer who was investigating charges that the sheriff had illegal sexual contact with a prisoner in his custody during October of 2001. Jones also was charged with twice attempting to persuade a witness not to testify against him in the case.
The embattled Wayland resident faces one felony count of making a false statement to investigators as well as two counts of felony tampering with a witness. Jones appeared before a magistrate judge of the United States District Court in St. Louis Thursday, November 7. He was freed on $25,000 bond.
The witness tampering charges can each carry a sentence of up to 10 years in prison while the false statement charge could carry an additional five-year prison term with the possibility of fines up to a quarter of a million dollars if Jones is found guilty.
