Hulshof Attends Meeting Of Local Merchant Group
The Scotland County Business and Professional Association had a full agenda at the August 14 meeting, receiving an update on the organization's website project while also hearing from U.S. Congressman Kenny Hulshof and Brian Munzlinger, Republican candidate for First District Representative.
Jeffrey Harris of Skyhouse Consulting reported the SCBPA led website project for Scotland County was past the halfway stage. He noted the site can now be viewed by interested parties at www.scotlandcounty.net.
The development of the site is being funded by the SCBPA and the Scotland County Rotary Club. Funds have also been allocated for the project by the City of Memphis as well as Scotland County.
Sales of business pages on the website will help generate additional revenue as well as a small annual maintenance fund. Each business in Scotland County will be listed on a business directory found on the website. Any business may purchase a webpage, which would open from their name link on the business directory.
Harris stated merchant's with existing websites could use this page to link to their own sites, drawing browsers from the Scotland County page directly to the business site.
He stated businesses interested in taking advantage of the opportunity should contact the SCBPA to receive an information sheet.
Congressman Hulshof dis-cussed a number of federal issues that will effect businesses. He indicated that healthcare, prescription drugs and insurance would likely be the biggest topics of discussion when the new legislative session kicks off.
The congressman also discussed the federal role in transportation funding as both he and Munzlinger talked to the gathering about the recent failure of the Proposition B tax proposal on the August ballot.
The SCBPA meets on the second Wednesday of each month at the Social Restaurant in Memphis. For more information contact president Jeff Behrens at 465-8579.
