Rotary Club Bringing Circus To Memphis On Labor Day
Thanks to the sponsorship of the Scotland County Rotary Club, Culpepper & Merriweather Circus, America's favorite old-fashioned big top circus is coming to Memphis on Monday, September 2 at the Scotland County Fairgrounds with two scheduled performances at 2:00 and 4:30 p.m.
In its 19th season, C&M Circus has become internationally known for quality family entertainment. This authentic one-ring big top circus has been featured in National Geographic's Explorer television series, Entertainment Tonight, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, and most recently on the A& E Special "Under the Big Top".
This year's lineup includes an All-Star group of performers and entertainers including: Cheeko the Clown, the Fabulous Tavana Luvas, Suzanne Annette on the Spanish Web, the Amazing Baltista Family, and the largest members of the Culpepper and Merriweather Circus Family - African elephants Barbara and Connie.
The public is invited to watch Barbara and Connie erect the big top tent the way it's been done for more than 200 years - with elephant power. The tent raising is at 9:00 a.m. followed by a free endangered species show at 10:00 a.m. The endangered species show offers a unique face-to-face opportunity for families, schools, and interested community members to meet and learn about Barbara, Connie and the rest of the animals in the circus family.
The midway will open at 1:30 p.m. prior to the first show with games, concessions and pony and elephant rides to be offered. The first show will run from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. followed up by the second show starting at 4:30 p.m.
Advanced discount tickets can be purchased at the Rotary Club's activities during the Scotland County Antique Fair August 21-23.
