Memphis Medical Services Commemorating Five Years Of Service

Time flies quickly when you're having fun and it goes even more quickly when you're busy. It seems like just yesterday that Memphis Medical Services came into being as a rural health clinic.

Yet on Friday, July 19, the hospital will be celebrating the 5th anniversary of Scotland County Hospital's rural health clinic. The rural health clinic opened July 1, 1997 and was accepted to participate under Medicare, December 12 of that year.

One constant has been the presence of Dr. Robert Schneider, board certified in family practice. Dr. Schneider is Medical Director of Memphis Medical Services and has called the rural health clinic home to his family practice since it's beginning.

Memphis Medical Services is also served by Dr. Michael Whitlock, board certified in family practice; Dr. Matt Cormier, board certified in family practice; Dr. Celeste Miller, board certified in general surgery; Dr. Robert Jackson, board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology; Beverly Oliver, family nurse practitioner; Marilyn Day, family nurse practitioner, plus eight clinic nurses and office assistants in the clinic.

With nearly 10,000 patient contacts per year the physicians, nurse practitioners, clinic nurses and other support staff have little time to notice pages on the calendar.

Opening on March 1, 1999 the addition of the new clinic building allowed for the much needed expansion of services. Ideally the clinic building is connected to the hospital making it easier to access other services such as, laboratory, radiology, physical therapy, cardiac rehab, obstetrics and other departments inside the hospital.

The hospital will be celebrating the rural health clinic's 5th birthday by offering a free skin cancer screening this coming Friday, July19, from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Memphis Medical Services. The free screening will also include information regarding signs and symptoms of the three types of skin cancer and the associated risk factors. No appointment is necessary and the screening is free of charge, just a free birthday gift from Scotland County Memorial Hospital and Memphis Medical Services.
