Gorin Man Flown From Scene Of Accident
A Gorin man was flown from the scene of an early morning accident on Route U four miles east of Gorin that occurred sometime after 2:00 a.m. June 8.
Carroll Peterson, 33, sustained serious injuries after the vehicle he was driving ran off the south side of the roadway where it struck a utility pole, snapping it in two. The vehicle spun around before coming to rest facing east in the south ditch.
Peterson was extricated from the car by the Scotland County Rescue Squad. Workers used the jaws of life to remove the driver's side door to allow ambulance personnel to remove the victim from the vehicle. Peterson was then transported by air ambulance helicopter to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL, for treatment of internal injuries caused by impacting the steering wheel of the car.
A passenger in the car, Cynthia A. Urban, 45, of Wyaconda, also suffered serious injuries in the crash. She was taken by Scotland County Ambulance to Scotland County Memorial Hospital.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Peterson was westbound in a 1989 Plymouth when the vehicle crossed the centerline and impacted the utility pole.
Peterson was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, failure to drive on the right half of the roadway, no driver's license and no seatbelt.
Additional arrests are pending as a controlled substance (marijuana) was found in the vehicle. The Scotland County Sheriff's Department also indicated Peterson was wanted on outstanding warrants, noting he would be taken into custody by the Adams County (IL) Sheriff's Department upon his release from the hospital.
