Care Center Celebrating Nursing Home Week

Governor Bob Holden has proclaimed May 12-18 as Homes for the Aging Week in Missouri and the Scotland County Care Center will be celebrating all week long with a number of special events.

The celebration starts Sunday, May 12 with Sunday School at 10:00 a.m. followed by Communion at 10:30. An ice cream social will get underway at 2:15 p.m. featuring music by the Milton Heritage Band.

Monday through Friday there will be special devotion services held daily at 10:00 a.m. featuring a different speaker each day.

Residents will be treated to a special bingo session Monday, May 13 at 2:15 p.m. The games will feature a surprise guest caller.

On Tuesday, May 14 the Daughters of the Union of the Civil War will visit the care center at 2:15 p.m.

Dancing Rabbits will be the special guests Wednesday, May 15 at 2:15 p.m.

Thursday evening, May 16, there will be a family barbecue for residents and family from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Friday, May 17, Nelda Billups will be on hand at 2:15 p.m. for Froggy Friday.

The special week will come to a close Saturday, May 18 with the 5th Annual Car Show at the Residential Terrace. The event will start at 10:30 a.m.. Free hot dogs and chips will be served to visitors until 1:30 p.m.

"Make plans now to join your loved ones this week," said Care Center Activities Director Pat Clary. "Everyone is invited to attend all the activities. We hope to see you during National Nursing Home Week."

In his proclamation for Missouri, Governor Holden expressed his appreciation for the residents, volunteers, and employees of nursing homes, residential care facilities, and senior housing projects who continually strive to enhance the "golden years" of Missouri's elderly. He also recognized the Missouri Association of Homes for the Aging and its membership of not-for-profit long-term care providers who provide high quality health, housing and community services to the elderly.
